The star of this week's Historic Goals feature is 

Hugo Sánchez

, one of the most prolific goalscorers of his generation. He checked in at 

Real Madrid

 in the summer of 1985 and soon established himself as a fans' favourite. The Mexican frontman was renowned for his first-time strikes and goalscoring prowess. 

On Matchday 4 of the 1988/89 LaLiga  campaign, 

Real Madrid

 travelled to the 

Benito Villamarín 

to face 


. The Whites claimed victory courtesy of a Sánchez double in the space of three minutes. He completed his brace when he finished off a counter-attacking move in which 


collected the ball on the edge of the area before lofting it over a defender and towards 


, who controlled with his head and fired past the hosts' goalkeeper.  

Sánchez made 282 competitive appearances for Real Madrid and plundered 208 goals. He played a significant part as the team secured five LaLiga titles, one UEFA Cup, three Copa del Rey crowns and a trio of Spanish Super Cups. In terms of individual honours, he scooped four Pichichi Awards and a Golden Shoe.
